Next day I accidentally took a busy road from Wexford to Arklow (65km). Although not very scenic, it is also on a bicycle the most efficient route: My average speed improves by the day. Now that I’m appraoching the end, I seem to come to terms with the modus operandi for a trip like this.
Mid day I arrived at Arklow. After several email exchanges, the reception was refreshingly hospitable. The word had spread, and many members took an interest in my bike & attachment. Here my request to play with a member was instantly granted and I was shown around by 2 friendly gents from Arklow city. Very helpful and fun.
Arklow is also next to the sea, which was proven by an ever increasing wind along the round. Although not too long, a challenging course, were a good mix of skills is needed. Often a shorter shot here is better, with hard fairways and fast greens. My guys saved me several strokes; thanks!
A course like Arklow deserved more visitors than it attracts. Great links course, good facilities and atmosphere in the clubhouse. On my list to come back to for sure.
