First Win For Arklow SuperSeniors Team
President Charlie O'Driscoll's team competing in the Elm Park SuperSeniors (over 70s) for the first time recorded their first win away to Rathfarnham G.C. yesterday Monday April 24 on the scoreline of 3-2. Previously they had lost to Lisheen Springs in opening match 3-2 at home and then 3-2 was the margin again when they fell to Woodbrook away. The final game in the round robbin league is at home to Headfort who are vying with Lisheen Springs for top of the league.
Elm Park are sponsoring this competition and this year there were 35 teams entered and they were subdivided into 7 groups of five . Each five play 4 matches with 5 pairs on each team playing Scotch Foursomes-2 home 2 away. Legue winners and best runner-up go onto knock out QF's and SFs with Final in Elm Park. It is a well run competition played with an element of competition but also for enjoyment favouring the social element.
The winning team yesterday was comprised of Charlie O'Driscoll & Sean Day, Pat Grant & Frank Trainor, Pierce Dooley & Liam Mc Grath, Joseph Mooney & Sean Redmond and George Murphy and Charlie Keppel.
